LUSH Cosmetics: Kind to Animals, Not to Women
LUSH intentionally chose a female actor to endure 10 hours of torture in a public space to, in so many words, teach women a lesson. Incidentally, products marketed to women are much more likely to be free of animal testing, unlike men’s products. The next time you are in a store that sells toiletry items, check the packaging of men’s products. How many are cruelty-free? You will be hard pressed to find any. Furthermore, most animal testers, farmers, and slaughterhouse workers are men. Men are more likely to hunt and men consume more Nonhuman Animal products than women. It’s even men who are buying animal hair coats, as the ability to adorn women with fur acts a male status symbol. Is it really so disingenuous to question men’s role in the systemic exploitation of animals?
This protest was a collaboration between the performance artist and Lush, they did not reach out to her specifically for this idea and did not intentionally seek out a woman. The fact that it was a woman had nothing to do with the message, though it did make it a little more uncomfortable for people with typical notions of “Men should not hurt women ever”, when in reality, people shouldn’t hurt other people and gender shouldn’t even come into the conversation here! People shouldn’t hurt each other OR animals, and the fact that it was men doing tests on a woman shouldn’t even come into the conversation, ESPECIALLY on a blog entitled “feminspire”. All this post inspired me to do was facepalm. If you read anything about the protest, you would know that Lush Cosmetics collaborated (not auditioned screaming women) with the performance artists involved. This woman is a trained performance artist who has performed in pieces like this before, and wanted to do it. It was about showing the cruelty that animals deal with, day in and day out, in factories. The point here is ANIMAL TESTING IS CRUEL, not LOOK AT US TORTURING THIS WOMAN LOOK AT HER SHE HAS A VAGINA DID WE MENTION SHE’S A WOMAN AND WE ARE TORTURING HER. She did an incredibly brave thing for the fight against animal testing. She’s an example of women standing up for what they believe in. If anything, this was a great moment for women.

BIG Mark C. confirmed it himself on his personal facebook page!
Let The Good Times Roll will come back at some point!
Yeah, at the holidays, where it belongs.
LTGTR is a product that we all love, but is incredibly cumbersome to sell, package, carry, etc. If it was easy, we’d carry it constantly, but because it has a shorter expiration date and can’t be sold by weight like the other roll cleansers it creates some problems. However, if you stock up and freeze it at holiday period you’ll be fine!

AWESOME LUSH THINGS THAT AREN’T BATH BOMBS PART 6 (?):
Grease Lightning
Being a 21-year old female, or a person in general, in 2013 is rough. We have money, jobs, loans, and all kinds of crazy things to worry about day in and day out that it can definitely lead to some stress breakouts, or as it’s been for me lately, a face that looks like a near-exploding volcano. However, I have a secret weapon in my pocket, and so do all of my coworkers - and now you can too! It’s called Grease Lightning.
Grease Lightning, despite the incredibly misleading description on the bottle, is a spot treatment, NOT a cleanser. When I tell people at work that it’s a spot treatment and the bottle says cleanser they stare me down like they cannot process those two things being different. Please trust me. It’s a spot treatment. You just put it on those nasty areas of your face (or back/chest too!) and it helps to suck up all that oil and grime without irritating your skin! I’ve been through just about every drug store spot treatment and failed miserably until I met GL. It’s a beauty.
Grease Lightning works its magic with an astringent/antibacterial triple threat: thyme, rosemary, and tea tree oils. Thyme and rosemary are antibacterials, which helps to kill the bacteria that causes breakouts, and tea tree is incredible astringent, helping to tone and tighten pores and eradicate dirt. That may seem like a harsh combo, but Grease Lightning also contains aloe vera extract and lavender to help calm and balance out your oil production! Most spot treatments on the market at the moment contain things like salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide, which is incredibly harsh and drying; Grease Lightning can be applied a zillion times a day and I’ve never once felt it cause dryness, only a minor tightness (which means it’s working!). It’s one of the true favorites of the Lush KOP store, and hopefully one of yours soon as well :)

LOVELY LUSH THINGS THAT AREN’T BATH BOMBS (AND ARE GR8):
Fair Trade Foot Lotion
So as someone who is a professional at standing for long periods of time, obviously I have issues with my feet. Once, I wore flats for a 6 hour shift and my big and pinky toes were numb for two days. I’ve seen some shit when it comes to foot issues, which is why I am such a huge fan of Fair Trade Foot Lotion.
Fair Trade is the triple threat of Lush products for your feet; it softens and hydrates with Fair Trade Cocoa Butter (and helps people in developing countries make a living), it deodorizes with peppermint oil, and it actually helps with foot pain and stress with arnica, a natural pain reliever and bruise healer that’s been used to treat bruises and aches and pains for centuries. It helps to stimulate the immune system, as well!
A great way to use Fair Trade, especially for summer, is in conjunction with our Volcano Foot Mask, which leaves your feet feeling tingly and new. Also, pop into your nearest Lush for a free foot treatment involving those two PLUS our lovely Stepping Stone Foot Scrub and a Geo Phyzz foot soak to start :)
